A Report on an Interactive Meet on Strategic Position of India in the Homoeopathic World: Lessons from NHMRC Report

This day of 29th of January 2018 is going to be remembered as another red letter day in the history of National Institute of Homoeopathy. On this day “An Interactive Meet on Strategic Position of India in the Homoeopathic World – Lessons from NHMRC Report” was held at NIH Auditorium Hall. The gala event was adored by a galaxy of notable dignitaries and alumni of the institution. The event was presided over by Prof (Dr.) Abhijit Chattopadhyay – Director (I/C) of National Institute of Homoeopathy. In his opening speech he welcomed the chief guest Dr. Rachel Roberts, Chief Executive of the Homeopathy Research Institute (HRI) – United Kingdom, Dr. Raj Kumar Manchanda, Director General of Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Dr. Rathin Chakraborty a well renowned name in the homoeopathic circle and honb’le mayor of Howrah district. He beautifully remarked that National Institute of Homoeopathy is the one of the largest homoeopathic institutes in the world which caters doctors, teachers and researchers to the world and is the ultimate institute which can respond to all the demands made from the non- homoeopathic world.

Inaugural ceremony marked with lightening and garlanding of Dr Samuel Hahnemann. Present are the dignitaries from left Dr. Rachel Roberts, Prof (Dr.) Abhijit Chattopadhyay, Dr. Raj Kumar Manchanda, Dr. Rathin Chakraborty; on the extreme left corner Dr Alok Mishra- anchor of the whole program.

Dr. Rathin Chakraborty proclaimed that Homoeopathy had been facing opposition since its inception. Personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore supported Homeopathy. The present day scenario in publishing research based articles in standard journals. Dr. Raj Kumar Manchanda in his opening remarks elucidated on the key findings of the The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Statement by the Australian government. He advocated on quantitative and qualitative research, quality of education inculcated, incorporation of modern techniques and role of social media in diversifying Homoeopathy globally. Dr. Rachel Roberts astounded on a whole ministry being dedicated for the development of complimentary and traditional medicine in India. She was thankful to Government of India particularly the Ministry of AYUSH for making the whole trip possible. She admitted that India being decades ahead than most of the countries in the field of Homoeopathy. She reminisced her introduction to Laurel Chiten and playing a influential role in filming the documentary – Just One Drop.

Next followed the exclusive screening of the movie “Just One Drop – The Story Behind the Homoeopathy Controversy”. Director – Producer: Laurel Chiten.  Running time: 1hr 6min. Initial release: April 2017. Filmmakers try to explore the controversial practice of homeopathy. Just One Drop tells the little known story of homeopathy: the most controversial system of medicine ever invented. Could this be nature’s most potent medicine? The film’s ultimate message – is about freedom of choice in health care.

An open – forum session ensued with several catechism from the audience pertaining to Homeopathy Research Institute, NHMRC – statement, movie, future strategies which Dr. Rachel Roberts elaborated with élan. The overall interaction generated some positive vibes among the congregation to delve more into the future of Homoeopathy.

Post event Dr. Rachel Roberts and other luminaries were briefed about the present and futuristic projection of the National Institute of Homoeopathy by Dr. Subhas Singh, Departmental In-Charge of Organon of Medicine at the Seminar Hall of the institute. Overall the occasion was a grand presentation of the present situation of Homoeopathy around the world and reckoning a caveat to the torchbearers of Homoeopathy.
