Tribute to Dr. Ramkrishna Ghosh Mondal (Jan 1, 1931 – Jan 25, 2019)

Dr. Ramkrishna Ghosh Mandal was an eminent homoeopath of West Bengal, from the district of Howrah, left for his journey to heavenly abode on 25th of January 2019.

He was born on 1st January 1931, brought up in the middle class farming family in rural Bengal. He passed his D.M.S. degree in the year 1955 from Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, and obtained M.B.S (Hom) in December 1972. He was one of the active members in various movements since 1955 for the State recognition and development of Homoeopathy.

In 1972, he rendered service as Medical Officer in state homoeopathic camp at Salt Lake in treatment of the Bangladesh evacuee. In 1978,he  organized 21 Homoeopathic camps for the flood affected people of the district of Howrah in collaboration with the Council of Homoeopathic Medicine, West Bengal. In November 1978, he headed a medical team for rendering aid to flood victims of Khanakul area in Arambagh subdivision of Hooghly district. From 01.07.1976 to 31.03.1977, worked as a Research Worker on “Tonsillitis” conducted under State Planning Board, West Bengal.

This legendary personality’s achievements are countless. He was nominated as Honorary Homoeopathic Physician to the Governor of West Bengal. He was one of the leading ones for setting up the two Homoeopathic colleges in Howrah: namely Mahesh Bhattacharya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital & Netai Ch. Chakrabarty Homoeopathic Medical College  and Hospital. Later he was appointed as the Principal, Superintendent and H.O.D of Homoeopathic Repertory of Mahesh Bhattacharya Homoeopathic College and Hospital.

He was the ex-Member of CCH and Asiatic Society and also ex-Convener of All India Homoeopathic Teachers forum. He was the former President of International Federation of Homoeopathic Physicians. Not only this but he was also the guide and examiner in Homoeopathic P.G. courses of different universities. He was also the advisor of the monthly journal “ Swasthyer Gupta Katha”.

The genius was awarded the “Tamra Patra Prasasti” in consideration of meritorious service rendered in field of Homoeopathy from Karnataka Homoeopathic Medical College. Also was a receipient of “Dr. Mahendra Lal Sircar Memorial Award”. He was honored with “Chikitsak Sudhakar Award” from Howrah Sanskrita Sahitya Samaj in 1999.

Dr. Ramkrishna Ghosh Mandal’s contribution also includes his writings of homoeopathic literature in Bengali, which are as follows-Homoeopathy-O-Amar Smriti Katha, Ghoroa Asukhe Homoeopathy and Homoeopathyr Ki-O-Keno. He has also published many Homoeopathic articles in Ananda Bazar Patrika and many other newspapers and journals.He has also participated in various Homoeopathic programmes of Doordarshan (television), AkashBani (radio). He also has given seminar on Cancer in Dhaka in 1993.

This prominent personality was the founder of Nithar Bala Homoeopathic Charitable Dispensary in Ramnagar, Hooghly. He has also established Sasthi Charan Ghosh Mondal Homoeopathic Charitable Trust in 1996. He was one of the key persons to popularize Homoeopathy in rural Bengal.

This great personality has attended to the fame of success overcoming all the obstacles that came in his pathway only by his dint of perseverance, sincerity of purpose and true dedication and devotion to the Science of Homoeopathy.
