SHRADDHANJALI–2016: A Report
In the memory of Prof. Dr. Mahendra Singh, the 3rd Award Ceremony & Scientific Seminar was held at the prestigious Indian Science Congress Auditorium, Park Circus, Kolkata on Sunday, 13th March 2016. Organized by the Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Trust, it was a distinguished event where eminent doctors of the homoeopathic world were recognized and awarded for their valuable contributions. The categories of awards were chosen based on the contributions of Prof. Dr. Mahendra Singh himself during his lifetime – as a dedicated practitioner, a devoted teacher, a skilled orator, an efficient organizer, administrator and an overall achiever.
The Inaugural session & Award ceremony began by garlanding the portrait of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann and Dr. Mahendra Singh. The Welcome Address was given by Dr. Archana Thakur of Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Trust. The Inaugural Speech was given by Dr. S. M. Desarda, Member, Executive Committee, Central Council of Homoeopathy.
The Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Trust organizes a Preparatory Camp for different competitive examinations including Entrance Examination for MD (Hom.) of The West Bengal University of Health Sciences including National Institute of Homoeopathy. The candidates trained in this camp who had cleared the West Bengal M.D.(Hom.) Entrance Examination in 2015 were felicitated for their successful efforts with a memento and a Certificate of Appreciation. The Certificates were conferred by Prof. Dr. S.K. Nanda, Director, NIH and Prof. Dr. Bhabatosh Biswas, Vice-Chancellor, The West Bengal University of Health Science (WBUHS).
Prof. Dr. Mahendra Singh was the former Principal of The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital and besides this he was also attached with several other Homoeopathic Colleges, in different capacity. Students of The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, National Institute of Homoeopathy, D. N. De Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital (Kolkata), Mahesh Bhattacharya Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital (Howrah), P.C.M. Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital (Kolkata), D.K.M.M. Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital (Aurangabad, M.S.), S. K. Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital (Beed, M.S.), and who scored the highest marks in Final BHMS Examination in their respective college in the subject of Organon of Medicine were awarded with Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Gold Medal and a Certificate, by Prof. Dr. S.K. Nanda, Director, NIH and Prof. Dr. Bhabatosh Biswas, Vice-Chancellor, The West Bengal University of Health Science (WBUHS) .
On this occasion, the ‘Shraddhanjali Issue’ of Peer Reviewed Quarterly Homoeopathic Journal ‘National Homoeo Recorder’ and ‘Unique Homoeopathic Calendar’ of Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Trust were released. The Unique Homoeopathic Calendar, which contains the dates of birth and death of famous homoeopathic stalwarts, is truly one of its kind. The Recorder and the Calendar were released by Dr. Ramjee Singh, President, Central Council of Homoeopathy, Prof. Dr. Bhabatosh Biswas, Vice-Chancellor, The West Bengal University of Health Science (WBUHS), Dr. G. P. Sarkar, Chairman of Allen Group of Companies, Dr. S. M. Desarda, Member, Executive Committee, Central Council of Homoeopathy and Dr. V. R. Kawishwar, Dean, Maharashtra University of HealthScience, Nashik. All of the above mentioned dignitaries gave a speech on the occasion remembering Dr. Mahendra Singh’s contributions and how he personally inspired each of them. Especially notable was the emphatic speech given by Dr. Ramjee Singh and Dr. S. M. Desarda about Dr. Mahendra Singh and his illustrious life. Prof. Dr. Shyamlal Mukherjee, Member, Executive Committee, Central Council of Homoeopathy and Dr. Iltaf Hussain, Secy General, The Homoeopathic Medical Association of India (HMAI) also graced the occasion with their presence.
The Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Life Time Achievement award was given to the distinguished Dr. K. J. Isaac of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, an octagenarian who was the Founder Principal of Government Homoeopathic Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. An outstanding teacher and a notable social-worker, he was instrumental in starting many Government Dispensaries in the state of Kerala – he encompasses the meaning of Life Time achievement and the award was justly conferred to him. The Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Best Teacher Award was given to Prof. Dr. M. K. Sahani, Chairman, Education Committee, Central Council of Homoeopathy and a faculty in the Dept of Repertory at G.D. memorial Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Patna, Bihar for his tireless efforts in advancement of homoeopathic education. The Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Award for Best Principal was given to Dr. Atul Kumar Singh, Principal of M. N. Homoeopathic Medical College, Bikaner, Rajasthan. The Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Award for the Most Dedicated Homoeopath was given to Dr. R. K. Dutta of Kolkata, for his dedication to the profession and constantly inspiring students to gain practical knowledge of homoeopathy. The Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Award for the Achiever of the Year was given to Dr. (Mrs.) Kanchan Desarda, Vice-Principal, D.K.M.M. Homoeopathic Medical College, Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Prof. Dr. Rajender Reddy of JSPS College, Hyderabad was given the Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Award for Best Administrator for his exceptional accomplishments as the Commissioner (Homoeopathy), Govt. of Telangana. Dr. Bhaskar Bhatt of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, who has been organizing numerous successful seminars and Homoeopathic camps, is also the ‘National President’, of the largest Organisation of Homoeopathic Physicians in the world – The Homoeopathic Medical Association of India (H.M.A.I.) was conferred the Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Award for the Best Organizer. The Dr. Mahendra Singh Memorial Award for Best Practitioner had been conferred to Dr. Vir Beri of Amritsar, Punjab and Dr. Bhakt Vatsal Sahay of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh for their role in disseminating the seeds of homoeopathy through excellent practice in their respective states. Dr. K. J. Isaac and Dr. Bhaskar Bhatt shared their experiences in Homoeopathy which were well received by the audience of seasoned as well as budding physicians.
The scientific session witnessed stimulating talks from prominent homoeopaths across India. Dr. Jayanta Bhukta, son-in-law of the renowned late Dr. K.C. Das, showed how even surgical cases treated homoeopathically can achieve miraculous results. Followed by Dr. Anwar A. Ansari, Prof. Of Repertory, S.K.H. Medical College, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences who captivated the audience with his presentation on the ‘Homoeopathic Approach in Management of Cancer’. Dr. Ashok Kumar Rai, Reader, Department of Repertory, Kharagpur Homoeopathic Medical College, presented ‘A Case of Transitional Cell Carcinoma of Urinary Bladder’ which resolved completely using homoeopathy.
In the Valedictory Session, the patrons of the programme were given mementos by the distinguished guests of the day. The Shraddhanjali-2016 was an enriching experience for all delegates and concluded with a promise to meet again for the next Shraddhanjali-2017.
